Indian Freedom fighter and Politician
In 1920, Muthuramalinga Thevar made his fight opposing the implementation of the Criminal Inheritance Act in Madurai, Tirunelveli and Ramanathapuram.
Thevar won for the first time in the election of Mudukulathur constituency beating the Justice Party candidate in 1936. Then he became the District board chairman since his victory.
In the following year, Thevar stood for Ramanathapuram constituency. On seeing the political growth of Thevar, the British Government made the Ramanathapuram King to contest against him. But Thevar got a huge success on winning the election.
Support to Temple Entry movement
In the year 1939, then Chief Minister C. Rajagopalachari implemented the Temple Entry Authorization and Indemnity Act that cleared the restrictions towards the Dalits stepping in the Hindu temples. He assisted the social activist A.Vaidyanatha Iyer to take lower caste people to the Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple. Thevar assured that he would give protection to the lower caste friends who enter the temple and would answer those who oppose their entry into the temple.
Thevar in Forward Bloc Party
In 1939, Thevar joined the Netaji’s Forward Bloc as he was disappointed with the Congress act of enacting the CTA. Then he took a main part in reception arrangement for the Madurai Bose visit.
